One Wild Goose Chase

Last weekend, we finally got to do a little letterboxing, and to make it even more fun, we did it at a gathering! On Saturday, October 6th, Christa, Emily & I drove out to Iowa to attend the Wild Goose Chase Gathering that was organized by Big Purple Foot, Mr Duck & Scout Angel. This gathering was held in honor of Scout Angel's sister (Goose Chaser) who passed away last year in an accident. Goose Chaser was a very prolific boxer in the Quad Cities area and was an excellent carver. The people who missed her wanted to honor her memory by planting some boxes and getting people together to remember her.

So, off we went. We arrived right on time (lunch time) and were very warmly greeted by our hosts, who pretended to be excited to meet us, and were genuinely excited to meet Emily. We have gotten very used to this, and understand that most people think we are just Emily's personal assistants. While we were eating lunch, we got to catch up with some old friends: Wisconsin Hiker, Martini Man, Atom 118 & Coffee Beans. After a very delicious lunch, and some group photos, we did lots of exchanges before hitting the trail. We really enjoy seeing the people we have met through letterboxing and were really happy to make some more new friends and put some faces to the trail stamps we see in letterboxes, and the names we see online.

Like I said, after lunch and exchanges we finally hit the trail. Unfortunately, by the time we got out, it was already getting a little late so we did not have much time to get a lot of boxes before it got dark. We did, however, get a few boxes. We really enjoyed getting out and stretching our legs on the trail. Emily even stayed awake for most of our boxing adventures, which is a first for her. All in all, we had a great time and would like to thank & congratulate our hosts for such a wonderful event.

The Whole Gang

Emily does a little catching up with her friend, Martini Man.

"Hi, Big Purple Foot. You've done a really nice job planning this gathering. I've been to a couple gatherings already, and this one has the best weather by far."

Modeling our new "Trail Shirts."

"Hi, Daddy. Mommy & I are going to look for a letterbox now. Are you coming, too?"

"Elmo, keep your eyes open. Let me know if you see anything from the clues. OK?"

Our little slackboxer actually stayed awake for some boxing today. She only fell asleep while we were stamping into our last box of the day.

Daddy did come with us to do the letterboxing. He was really excited because we haven't had many opportunities to go letterboxing recently.

You know, sometimes I try to get Uncle J to carry ME when we go 'boxing, but so far he has insisted that I do my own hiking.
