Teeth, Celebrities & Bears . . . Oh, My!

Well, the title of this one says it all, so everything that I write will be pretty much fluff. As you can likely tell from the picture on the right, Emily has finally cut her first tooth! (With another one right on the cusp.) This began in earnest at about 11:00 pm on Tuesday. Much to Christa's chagrin, Emily was inconsolable for about two hours. Thankfully, her mood was much improved when we got up in the morning, though she did take several naps. (You may be wondering why I am posting this on Friday considering that we did a post on Thursday about her 6 month birthday, well, Wednesday night and Thursday morning/afternoon we were having computer issues that prevented us from posting when we wanted to, and we felt that her half birthday was important enough to be on its own. So we're catching you all up now.)

The development of this tooth has caused some significant problems. The first involves Emily's penchant for chewing on fingers and toes that don't necessarily belong to her. This new tooth is pretty sharp, and when she starts chewing on your finger it feels funny at first...then it HURTS! The second problem is a little more complex. You see, I have been telling Emily every time I am eating something that looks delicious that she can't have any until she gets teeth. I am sure you see the problem by now. Emily has begun to demand some of the things that she has been wanting, her new mantra seems to be, "I have teeth, give me steak!" My response has been, "You have a tooth, you need a few more," but I am not sure how long this will work.

The reason that Emily's tooth development was so problematic was because sleep was very important on Tuesday night, so we could get up early on Wednesday. Why were we getting up so early, you ask? The answer is, to go to the Mandy Moore-ning show broadcast. Christa and I both listen to the same radio morning show on 101.9 fm, The Mix. The hosts of the show, Eric & Kathy, were going to be doing a live broadcast from the home of the Kane County Cougars, Elfstrom Stadium. This was open to the public, and FREE, they would be having two musical guests who will be revealed below. Emily was very excited to go, as she has been listening to Eric & Kathy her whole life, plus she wanted to talk to them about the possibility of a career in broadcasting. While we were there she was also able to talk to Ana Belaval, the "On the Town" reporter for WGN Morning News about work in T.V. We had a really good time and both musical guests were terrific.

After the morning show we all went to visit Joseph's bear at the Zoo. We also wanted to take advantage of it being the middle of the week to visit the new Stingray Exhibit, hoping it would be less crowded. Our first stop at the zoo was quite naturally, the gift shop. Our second stop was the somewhat less crowded than usual, Stingray Bay. Christa and I were both able to pet the Stingrays, Emily opted to just watch. From the Stingray exhibit, we went to see Joseph's bear. He is getting so big, and has begun to play in the water quite a bit. He really enjoys getting a running start and leaping into his pool. There are lots of toys for him to play with and he likes pouncing on them and tossing them around. We would have stayed longer, but the Cicada's were deafening, so we said goodbye to Joseph's bear, and headed home. All in all, Wednesday was a lot of fun. Tune in Monday for the details around the Father's Day Weekend Extravaganza!!

Hey, Check it out!! Emily made the paper! (I would click on this picture to make it big and see what you can make out. I'm hoping you'll be able to read the article, but if not, just enjoy the cute picture of Emily.)

The Mix morning show hosts Eric Ferguson & Kathy Hart get things started with their traffic girl/co-host Melissa McGurren.

Ozzie the Cougar meets the Quill Chicken.

Steve (and a sleeping Emily) poses with Ozzie & the Chicken.

Emily & WGN morning news reporter Ana Belaval (Ana is expecting her first daughter in October. Congrats, Ana! We wish you & your husband much happiness with your little girl).

The first performer was Emerson Hart from the band Tonic.

A rare moment caught on film (or memory card) . . . Emily isolates her thumb! She's actually sucking just her thumb, not all of her fingers! Go, Em!!

Ana Belaval joins the fray on stage and tapes her segment with the folks from 101.9 FM for the WGN Morning News broadcast.

Mandy Moore takes the stage and sits down to chat with Eric & Kathy.

Mandy Moore performed 3 songs.

Eric, Kathy, Melissa & Mix Morning Show Producer "Swany" listen to Mandy sing.

Emily gets a photo op with Kathy Hart. (We almost didn't get Emily back from Kathy.)

Next, it was Eric Ferguson's turn to pose with Emily.

Emily & Melissa McGurren.

Emily & Daddy pose with The Simpsons.

A family photo in front of the 101.9 FM van.

At Brookfield Zoo, Emily got to ride on Daddy's shoulders for the first time.

Emily Hat!

Ring, Ring . . . "Hello, Emily phone. Hello? Hello? Hmmmm, Nobody's there." (Don't you just love that little monkey butt?)

Joseph's polar bear was swimming like crazy in his now completely full pool. He even swims underwater . . . our little polar bear is growing up so fast.

All wet and on the move.

Mommy & Emily watch Joseph's polar bear frolicking and playing in the water.

Such a busy day made Emily build up a powerful thirst. With the help of a new gadget by Gerber (a nifty nipple attachment), Emily can drink out of a water bottle. She thinks this is great fun, even if she dribbles more down her chest than she gets into her mouth. Yep, she's already got a drinking problem.

Funny--Amanda and I have that same picture with the Simpsons. We took it at the movie theater, though, just before Spiderman 3 was starting. =)

Aunt Susie and utb (uncle to be) Carl

That is so neat that Emily had here picture taken with so many celebrities. What, no picture with Swany?????? Too bad she was asleep when she had her picture taken with Ozzie. You will have to go to a Cougars game sometime and get another picture with Ozzie.

Weeellll, its hard to say. Emily doesn't really consult us as to when she is going to push out a new tooth. I am sure that just being with her Aunt S and Uncle J (or is it Johnny?) will keep her calm. Also, Emily has heard that Aunt S can be somewhat overindulgent, and is hoping to get her chance a chocolate chip cookies.

For the record, it is Uncle J, also known 9or to be known) as The Godfather. And yes, for some reason I have acquired a reputation for being overindulgent, but I am not sure how that came about...
