There's A Moose In There; In My Frigidaire!

So, I imagine that this title and the accompanying photo, needs a little explanation. Christa, to the best of my knowledge knows one poem, beginning to end. That poem is by Shel Silverstein, and is entitled: There's a Polar Bear in my Frigidaire! Christa LOVES this poem. We, despite our love for polar bears, do not have a polar bear in the refrigerator, but we do have a Moose. Emily has begun to work on getting some teeth, and that little moose has teethers as hands, they are filled with a special liquid that keeps them cold for a while to help soothe her aching gums. (They do make these toys in Polar Bears, but they are white and Christa thought that with Emily chewing on it all of the time, it would get really dirty. So, she bought the moose, another one of our favorite animals.) So, there he is in there, the Moose in our Hotpoint, and he cracks us up every time we open up the fridge.

This last week has been a very calm one for Emily. Christa finished school on Monday, and brought Emily with her for the last day. (Christa didn't have any students on Monday, since the students only report for one hour. Don't ask us why, we both think that this is stupid, too.) After school let out, Emily went with Christa to the Teachers' luncheon at Max & Erma's. It seems that the teachers all look forward to this day as much, or more than, the students. They spend all this time together all year, but then need to go have a relaxing lunch together when it is all over. Teachers can be a very strange bunch, but they are all a really great group of people.

After the excitement of Monday, the rest of the week was very tame, and there was much napping, snuggling, and laying about. Emily spent Friday night with Grandma Kathy & Auntie Mandy so that Christa & I could go see the Pirates of the Caribbean.

On Saturday morning, we picked Emily up and brought her to see her Great Great Aunt Toni. Emily was very happy to meet her and was all smiles through the whole visit. Great Great Aunt Toni is a very avid knitter and she had made some very special things for Emily, which she is modeling some of the photos below. It was really nice hearing some of her stories about the things she knitted during the war, and how some of those soldiers contacted her, and how she still writes to some of their families!! After Aunt Toni, we went back to Grandma Kathy's and everyone took lots of naps. Saturday was very relaxing.

Sunday dawned bright and beautiful. We went to the plant nursery to get flowers for the front walk, and Emily, who has some experience here after helping Grandpa Ray pick out his flowers, was very helpful. She really is a bright kid. After that, we all went home and did some yard work and then finished our day with a very pleasant walk around the neighborhood. All in all, a very relaxing, yet productive weekend.

Emily has been trying very hard this week to sit up, but she's doing it the hard way, so all she really does are "baby crunches" because it's hard to pull yourself all the way up to a sitting position when lying flat on your back. She really likes sitting up, so I've taken to propping her up on the couch with some pillows. She seems to really like this.

Here we are on Tuesday morning, ignoring the fact that we should get dressed and just hanging around in our PJ's. Emily was watching the news with me, while I ate my breakfast.

Emily also spent some time this week laying on a blanket on the floor, playing with her toys. Woo-Hoo! I love playing with toys.

On Thursday, this is the face that greeted me in the morning. She had wiggled herself all the way down to the other side of her bed (where the stuffed critters are) and grabbed her puppy. When I came in, all I saw of her were her feet swinging around in the air, and the puppy's feet swinging around. She had this little guy in a headlock and was swinging him around, squealing with delight. I managed to sneak out of the room, before she discovered me, to get the camera. When she saw the camera, she stopped flinging puppy and smiled. What a nut!

Another new development is Emily's fascination with the couch cushions. The cushions on the couch stick out a little from the base of the couch. When lying on her blanket, Emily likes to roll underneath the cushion overhang and play with it. Here she is kicking it with her feet and clawing at it with her hands.

Caught in the Act! I better look innocent.

In the jumperoo.

Taking a nap on the couch.

Outside playing in the jumperoo.

Emily really likes being outside. She likes listening to the birds and watching the cars & people go by. She does not like the wind hitting her in the face.

Taking a nap in the car. Did we mention all the naps that were being taken this week?

Sitting on Grandpa Ray's lap. He came with us to Great Great Aunt Toni's.

Modeling off the pretty skirt that she wore to go visit Aunt Toni.

Aunt Toni & Emily (Emily is modeling the cute hat, pink sweater, and blanket that were all made for her by Aunt Toni).

A close-up of the hat. It looks like a strawberry!!

There was also some toe-nibbling this week. Look out Aunt Sandy, she did nibble on Mommy's toes a little bit this week, too.

Sitting in the new purple "Emily Chair" that was purchased this week at Babies R Us. Since Emily was having so much fun sitting, we decided that this will help her in her desire to be vertical until she is able to accomplish that goal herself.

Ack! I consider myself warned - I won't pack any sandals... steel toed boots, maybe...

Hey, if Emily wears that hat, does that make her a strawberry blonde?

Having grown up with the elephant jokes of the 1960's (how can you tell if there's been an elephant in your refridgerator ..... footprints in the jello), I am looking forward to an entire new category of moose moments!! Chew away Miss Emily, we're looking forward to pictures of your new "pearly whites"!!! Although how can that smile get any brighter?! (and how do Cow and Moose get along?)
